Our Children
Our mission is the whole transformation of street children and their families – physical, social, emotional, educational and spiritual. In 2006 we helped 1155 street children. In 2007, by opening Recife we hope to reach 2,000 children. Our plans are to treble our reach by 2010.
Fabio
10 years old
Fabio’s Mum had 4 children. She lived in a dirty broken down shack. Her children were very hungry and she would give them ‘dog food’ to eat.
Julimar
12 years old
Julimar has been with Happy Child for almost one year. His father left home and shortly afterwards his mother started living with another partner. He drank heavily and would frequently hit Julimar and his three brothers and sisters. Julimar’s Mother and partner survived by picking up litter and tins from the streets.
Michael
13 years old
Michael lived in a shack with his parents who were alcoholics and drug users. Michael has 3 younger brothers and sisters. Michael started to go to the streets to beg for money and food. At one time he was even looking after parked cars to earn a bit of cash. Often he would stay on the streets until the early hours of the morning. Upon his return home his parents would be drunk and would hit him.
Wellington
12 years old
Wellington is 12 years old and came to Happy Child in 2003. His parents were alcoholics and lived on the streets of Belo Horizonte. Last year his Mother died and he is now an orphan.
Sandriane
10 years old
Sandriane’s mother is a alcoholic and a drug user. She completely neglected her children. Sandriane is with Happy Child and living in one its long term care homes.. Today Sandriane’s mother is in therapy for drug dependence.
