Instituto Solidare
Instituto Solidare has a vision for the formation of citizens who can bring social transformation to their own environments.
It started in 2006 and has a strong track record of working with poor and marginalised communities in Recife and other parts of Pernambuco, north east Brazil.
The team believe that the lives of the vulnerable young can be improved through employment, education, income generation, skills training and the circular economy.

Project Mentoring e Training
Currently Happy Child International supports their Mentoring and Skills Training project, a vehicle to lift the vulnerable young out of poverty. 40 % of the training is focused on acquiring technical skills for industrial mechanics and business administration.
The hands on training takes place at the Gerdau Iron and Steel, one of Brazil’s largest companies. The remaining 60% concentrates on the psychosocial development of these young people.
The emphasis is on building self-esteem and resilience, improving interpersonal skills, and learning practical skills around budgeting and finance. The project hosts 40 over 16 year olds from low income families.
Project Gathering
Project Gathering provides regular pre and post-natal group meetings which provide essential companionship and peer support for the mums.
Awareness raising about issues around unplanned early pregnancy is an essential part of Project Gathering. The technical team are targeting young people in schools, community centres, youth gatherings and other relevant local venues to deliver the message about issues surrounding unplanned early pregnancy.
The awareness raising themes cover school drop out, lost opportunities to enter the formal labour market and the risks of not receiving appropriate pre and post-natal care. The aims of the project are not only to support the young mums but to reduce the levels of unplanned early pregnancy in this community.
