Project Tamandaré – Embracing Information Technology for the next generation

In 2024 Happy Child International is collaborating with Project Tamandare to implement a skills training programme for children and young people ages 11 to 17 who come from low income-communities and who attend the project. The project has forged ahead with its vision to create a modern and up to date IT Laboratory where it can offer basic instruction in coding and computer programming. Dynamically it has put together an IT curriculum, sourced qualified instructors and met the challenge of sourcing some local funding to invest in 20 brand new computers.

In the first half of the year 20 young people will attend a 3 hour IT class on a Saturday morning for six months.  A further 20 will do likewise for the remaining half of the year. The project team believe that accessing these skills will motivate young people to continue their learning, consider how the development of these fundamental skills can assist them in finding future work, improve their confidence and self-esteem as well as promote a sense of social inclusion and equality.

In this tourist town of 24,000 inhabitants and where the population swells in the short summer months (January, February and March)  long term employment opportunities may be in short supply.

This amazing project believes that together with Happy Child’s encouragement and financial contribution these children and young people will have a brighter future.
